In this episode, I headed to Atlanta, Georgia, to spend the day with Coach Iago and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets — a program rooted in ACC-level excellence, high-level detail, and a culture that knows how to show up when it matters.
From the moment I walked onto the pool deck at the McAuley Aquatic Center, the vibe was clear: calm, confident, and controlled. The team was racing the next day, which meant this session wasn’t about grinding — it was about precision. The energy was relaxed, the athletes were loose, and every rep had intention behind it.
What stood out most was how much trust exists between coaches and athletes. Feedback was simple and direct. Athletes knew what they needed to feel. Every adjustment had purpose. That buy-in is what makes fast programs fast, and Georgia Tech has it.
There’s a real identity within this group — an identity built on discipline, accountability, and leaning into the details that matter when the lights turn on. Watching them prepare the day before racing showed just how dialed-in they are as a unit.
This visit was a reminder that the best programs know how to balance intensity with feel, and how to match the moment rather than force it. Georgia Tech is locked in, and Coach Iago is guiding the ship with clarity and confidence.
