Training remotely isn’t always easy—especially for Masters swimmers who balance work, life, and a love of the water. But with the right structure, programming, and communication, distance doesn’t have to limit performance. I’ve had the privilege of working with athletes all over the world, and one standout example comes from Brazil, where one of my Masters swimmers, Alexandre Frascino, trains entirely on his own with my guidance online.
For the past two years, we’ve worked together to design a program that’s tailored specifically to his strengths, weaknesses, and goals. Every yard, every set, and every session is purposeful—no filler, no “garbage yardage.” The focus is on efficiency, proper technique, and building speed while balancing recovery and overall life commitments.

The results speak for themselves. At the South American Championships, he earned second place in the 50 fly and fourth place in the 100 fly, proving that a smart, well-designed remote program can produce championship-level outcomes—even without traditional in-person coaching.
Here’s what he has to say about the process:"Training remotely with Joao has completely changed how I approach my swimming. Every session feels specific to me, and I can see the results in my times and technique. I never feel like I’m swimming for the sake of swimming."
"This year, water was a consistent part of my routine — in training, on difficult days, and in the early mornings when discipline mattered more than motivation. Swimming is built on repetition, but every session still teaches something new. Today’s race was about applying what I prepared all year, focusing on execution and delivering my best. The result is a consequence of consistent work and targeted training. I want to thank Coach João for identifying my technical weaknesses, refining them, and helping me develop my strongest qualities as an athlete. None of this happens alone. I’m grateful for everyone who supported me throughout the season as I continue improving, day after day."

This is the beauty of remote coaching for Masters swimmers: the ability to receive personalized, results-driven programming no matter where you are in the world. It’s not just about logging yards—it’s about making every minute in the pool count.
If you’re a Masters swimmer looking to take your swimming to the next level, distance shouldn’t be a barrier. With the right program and guidance, your goals are fully achievable—even from afar.
